I was just going along for the ride in all honesty. I don’t do well at the dentist and just agreed to anything to stop the pain! My root canal is scheduled to start early Feb, it’s my first too and I’m quietly shitting myself.

It really wasn’t that bad. I was terrified but was given a bit of extra anaesthetic (thanks weird resistance gene) and time to numb, and they did tests to make sure I didn’t feel anything before they started.

If they haven’t actually begun the root canal yet - it’s not a bad idea to get prescribed a valium or two to take an hour before the procedure, and knowing about my thing with local anaesthetic I took 2 paracetamol ahead to help dull pain during and after. If you’re really worried you can also take 2 ibuprofen with the paracetamol.

Then kind of watch the overhead tv if they have one and try not to think about it.

I found the pain wasn’t bad even after the anaesthetic wore off. More like mild discomfort. Fingers crossed it doesn’t suddenly worsen (peaks within 2 days) but all in all it wasn’t the horror that it’s built up to be.

Edit: The only worry is how soft and delicate the temp filling is. I avoided all the hard foods I was told not to have but forgetting and accidentally crunching an ‘innocent’ peppermint will do it -_-

The soft food and eating on the good side isn’t really needed for pain but more for the fragility.

I still have a few more visits to do the other stuff and the crown, hopefully they go as smoothly touch wood
