I’ve converted my front yard to be mostly edible plants, I think they are often underrated in how ornamental they can be.

I don’t think I’ve seen a potato flowering before. Now that I think about it, that’s strange. If we harvest after the top dues back, I should get to see flowers.

    Your crop looks fabulous!

These seem to have more flowers than I normally get - I assume they are showing off because they know they are visible to people walking by. Who knew potatoes were so vain?

Just a note about soil contamination and toxicity transfer to plants. Have you had your soil tested? If you are anywhere near old industrial sites it might be worth it.

I believe where I am was an orchard and has been residential for ages.

I did get a soil test done and there are no concerns.

Great stuff. Many parts of our area are not so lucky.

I heard a talk about phytoremediation of industrially contaminated soils recently, so it’s on top of my brain when I see urban gardens now.

I was taking to someone last week who has been advised their soil is not safe for vegetables as it used to be a dump. Covered over landfills can create problems for quite an area around them, especially if the ongoing managment of the landfill site is not adequate.

It’s definitely worth knowing more about the past use of the land you live on (and considering a soil test), especially if you want to grow edible plants.
