I’ve converted my front yard to be mostly edible plants, I think they are often underrated in how ornamental they can be.

    I believe where I am was an orchard and has been residential for ages.

    I did get a soil test done and there are no concerns.

      Great stuff. Many parts of our area are not so lucky.

      I heard a talk about phytoremediation of industrially contaminated soils recently, so it’s on top of my brain when I see urban gardens now.

        I was taking to someone last week who has been advised their soil is not safe for vegetables as it used to be a dump. Covered over landfills can create problems for quite an area around them, especially if the ongoing managment of the landfill site is not adequate.

        It’s definitely worth knowing more about the past use of the land you live on (and considering a soil test), especially if you want to grow edible plants.
