Some Bri*ish Asshat made a movie about an American civil war to be released during an election year. I’m sure this won’t embolden the chuds at all. Everywhere online I see people say that it’s a poorly timed release I see some smug E*ropean talking about “sensitive Americans”. It’s not like film has been used to inspire reactionaries to commit political violence since it has existed or anything. Birth of a Nation? Never heard of it.

lol this is hilarious, they should have titled it And Then Everyone Clapped

A college student named Josh Wheaton who seeks to attain higher learning in pursuing further education, finds that his Christian faith brings him to a confrontation with his philosophy professor. The teacher named Professor Radisson, begins the class by having each student sign a document that denies the existence of God. When Josh refuses to renounce his beliefs, the professor decides that a debate between the two of them will determine his final grade. Should the entire class be convinced by Josh’s statements, he can pass the course. If the class is not moved, his academic future may be at an end.

As Josh tries to prepare for this classroom event, various other individuals struggle with their personal stumbling blocks that seem to pull them away from their faith in Jesus Christ. With the assistance of the leader of his church, Reverend David “Dave” Hill, Josh prepares for the assignment. Along the way he believes there is a higher purpose to the conversation with his college professor, than merely to pass the class.

There were three 20-minute debates in which Josh sought to bring historical and scientific content to prove the existence of God, while the professor tried to prove the non-existence of God. The students became aware of facts they were not familiar with, and some had never heard of before. At the end of the debates, Josh and the professor were surprised by the reaction of the students. All the students stood up and affirmed that God is not dead.

this reminds me of people flipping out about joker before it came out. it says something about liberal panic but it’s just a movie. peole have been making right wing schlock movies for decades. the only difference is that cgi has gotten cheaper so the fantastic violence can be depicted more glamourously

I guess? When Birth of a Nation came out, there were still living members of the original klan – ‘activated’ audience members had a real organization ready for them. What are these Civil War reactionaries supposed to be inspired to do? What group will they join? That kind of organization, the skill-set and knowledge that comes with it, just doesn’t exist in the United States. The closest you get would be right-wing veterans, and their experience is loosing to insurgents, not being them.

Yeah. The trailer looked like a hard core horrors of war thing and also showing Americans the horror the inflict on everyone else.

like apparently Texas allies with California. I didn’t know what to make of that but now that I know a euro made it it makes far more sense. It’s like that joke in Eurotrip where they’re like “And that’s why France and Germany have always been allies”.

this movie will be lib as hell but of course that won’t stop the chuds from glorifying the chud villains

I don’t think they’re gonna start a civil war because of a Hollywood movie about a civil war though. but they might start a war if they put a trans person in the next Top Gun

I mean Alex Garland’s films are pretty cool imo, I’ve got some hope this one will be interesting at least. I am a little worried that in order to really pull off a “realistic” depiction of civil war or whatever that this looks like it’s trying to go for, you really need to understand dialectical materialism. Gotta understand contradictions in the Base between competing powers, and strains that fuel conflict like resource scarcity, climate change, class struggle etc. Which like, no liberals understand or think about. And if it’s a big enough movie at some point it gets taken over by liberals. So I could see that happening

Don’t worry it thinks Texas, Florida, and California are going to form an alliance. Seems like dialectal materialism will be the least of the accuracy issues

i’m pretty excited to analyze the brainworms that created it, tbh. American Civil War 2 is a super fun field of speculative fiction that’s extremely revealing of political persuasions. and now knowing its a british that made it, it’s definitely going to be unhinged sicko-hexbear

Will it embolden the QAnon chuds or will it embolden the call to vote for the BlueAnon Rebel Alliance, or both?

Hollywood has been edging towards this shit for a while. Just surprised A24 is the studio delivering it.

I’m sure the Twitter discourse is going to be chefs-kiss
