I find it amusing how the ABC commentators dance around the topic with politicians taking the centrist position: “ok but maybe a little genocide?” 🤔👐

      politicians taking the centrist position

Labor refused to sign the demand for a ceasefire (resulting in a Greens walkout) because the declaration made absolutely no mention of the October 7 massacre by Hamas.

“ok but maybe a little genocide?”

Maybe the Greens thought Oct 7 was too little genocide to mention?

ABC commentators dance around the topic

ABC Radio news (but not Website news) reported the Al-Ahli hospital attack as being a direct hit by IDF bombs killing 500 people even after evidence that Hamas were bullshitting was available to all of us who cared to look.

That war is such a clusterfuck. It looks like something from ancient times.

Israel had taken land before that. I heard they legitimately bought only 7% of it.

Then there is the issue of whether Jews were driven out by racists thousands of years ago or they left of their own accord.

Israel had taken land before that.

Not really AFAIK? There were Aliyahs before then, but Zionism only gained steam when they got the support of the British with the Balfour declaration. That also marks the start of relations souring between Jews and Arabs.

Well if either of us confirms one way or another let’s try to remember to inform each other. There are not many of us who are genuinely trying to understand it all (Lemmy is much better than Reddit).

Genuine question: do these protests on the other side of the world actually have any influence on the involved parties?

High school walkouts? Probably hard to say if it indirectly has any effects

But apparently the ceasefire Biden supported was due to his circle pressuring him to based on the huge amounts of people upset and protesting

Lots of UK protesters have shut down multiple Israeli weapons offices and factories

American ones have delayed a military shipment to Israel by 9 hours
