Fuck, you’re bang on about Discord being IRC2.0. I don’t like the chat rooms, I find the mixed topics too hard to follow if there’s more than about ten people taking part. Most of my discord servers are smaller with IRL friends for the purpose of gaming, either PC or DnD. The melb-meetup seems huge, I struggle to follow whats going on so I’ve sort of given it a miss. Similar to the melb-book-club one, that I think I got kicked for inactivity.
Yeah they can seem really cliquey. I was on a good one then someone came in and just kinda took over the whole chat. Can’t stand those kinds of people.
I had a craving for old school IRC for some company and found Discord a couple of years back. Sadly, not really anybody using it close to my age bracket, so it didn’t work out. It was alright for a while but eventually the age gap proved to be unworkable.
I’m old enough to remember the days of IRC. I made some great friends back in the day.
Seems like discord is IRC 2.0. Hadn’t ever really bothered with it, but it’s pretty cool.

Yeah I noticed a shitload of kids using it and not many people in my age group except for the niche music discords I visit.
I’ll be sticking to those ones who seem to have an older crowd.
