In short: Neighbours say they have been denied proper consultation around the plan to convert Fraser Suites in East Perth into 236 social and affordable housing units.
They want the state government to hold Q+A forums so residents’ concerns can be heard.
What’s next: A reference group will include members of the community to enable ongoing consultation.
The argument that short-term suites are not really suited to long-term living is fair. Do these suites have proper kitchens with ovens? Laundry nooks? Or are we going to have a shared laundromat on the ground costing $20 to do your weekly washing?
The rest is pure Nimbyism. If the government actually adapts these dwellings for safe and stable housing, it can only be a win.
NIMBYs
You say that, but I doubt there would be many who would want to live next door to 200+ social housing tenants. I’m sure many of them will be good people fallen on hard times, but you’re going to get a cross section of tenants who aren’t.
It’s a short term fix that will cause long term social problems for the area. There’s a reason they dont put all the HomesWest houses in one suburb.
I wonder how much concern there would be if they were planning to house the poor people in Balga
If?
