City of Nedlands Mayor launches extraordinary broadside after four councillors resign- ABC
Edit: (some background on the Childrens Hospice)
In short: The City of Nedlands opposed plans to build a parkland on an A-class reserve near the new $34 million children’s hospice in Swanbourne, which is due to open later this year.
The Lands Minister John Carey has moved to take Allen Park out of the hands of the council, saying it has not maintained the space in “any meaningful way”.
What’s next?
The move to excise control of the land will be put to state parliament in the middle of this month.
Wtf is going on in Nedlands?
Cheers for the addition of the text link. Story’s disappointingly lacking in the details of what led up to it, which is a shame. Surely that’s the juicy bit‽ This is linked with a little more background, but still not an explanation for why it has been so dysfunctional.
Also no details about how or when the election of a new council will happen
Local Government Minister Hannah Beazley
Was going to ask, “any relation?” But realised it’s easier to look it up myself. The answer is yes. She’s Kim’s daughter.
I’m a globalised girl with almost three university degrees that can speak two languages
Ok, fantastic for you, Mayor Argyle. I’m a globalised guy with one honours degree that lived in three countries. Wtf does that have to do with anyone’s competency as mayor?
So yeah, wtf is going on in Nedlands?
This article man…
“If anyone accuses me of bad behaviour or defamation I’ll sue them, because I have been nothing but a good mayor,” she said.
🙄
Mr Dodson said he could no longer serve in an environment he claimed was “consistently toxic”.
I’m like, if this article is even a slight glimpse into the council under her it makes complete sense why so many left
If you have a spare 7 minutes listen to the interview, the Mayor’s catchphrases just go on and on, in parts she almost speaks in pure catchphrase.
I can’t stop laughing at the bit where she starts banging on about a Lee Kwon Yew cities prize they’re in the draw for. Like, well done i guess, wanna address the dumpster fire in the carpark now?
That interview was so wild!
I got in the car this morning and they were halfway through replaying it on abc Perth breakfast. I came in right at the point she starts demanding “who doesn’t love dying children!?” I did a double, then triple take at, like wtf, i think i understand what she was trying to say, but fuck, that was a trainwreck!
I looked up more information about the childrens hospice, (link is in the edit to the post). It looks like a genuinely good project, that doesn’t deserve to be mired in a controversy like this.
