Exclusive: Lawyer for 24-year-old’s family asks NT police to ‘appoint independent body from another state or territory to undertake investigation’ after Alice Springs death
The 24-year-old man with disabilities from Yuendemu died on Tuesday afternoon after police restrained him in an Alice Springs supermarket.

“I respectfully reject calls for the investigation to be handed to an external body,” [NT acting police commissioner] Dole said in a statement.
Come on, guy. It’s what the community has asked for.
I’m surprised it’s not something that the coroner would be referred to. Though, I wonder if they’re waiting to see what the findings are from the autopsy. From what I had read last they hadn’t identified a definitive cause of death.
