Yes, highly recommend being honest and open. A year or so ago for some reason my ex-stepdad was still tied to my mum’s bank account and for some reason rent didn’t go through, so we were like a week behind or something. Mum (who is a property manager so it probably helped) was honest and apologetic and explained the situation. And it was fine, was able to pay it in the end.
