the thing is CI is more strident in misusing influence in the big more prestigious unis and in history and politics subjects, they try hard to influence the dialogue and narrative
at the smaller unis it’s just using soft power on the locals and keeping tabs on Chinese nationals
yup
in my classes ( art and language ) the political influence was subtle but present
the cultural superiority was overt and hard to bear ( from other students )
and there was no way I would use zoom
but I found the teachers expert, helpful and kind
in other classes the influence was much stronger
