I actually joined Rednote just to see what it’s like.
It’s cool, being on a platform that’s mostly people from another country/culture/language. You see that people are pretty much the same world over.
… Same inane bollocks from “influencers”, same stupid jump cuts constantly to make something boring look partially exciting, always with the end goal of pushing some product or service. But now it’s in Mandarin, and the brand names are written in moonrunes so I don’t know what they are.
Disappointing to hear it’s filled with “influencers”. I wonder how popular a platform can become without allowing the petty grifting and attention seeking tricks of social media.
I’ve found red note to have far fewer of the American-style “just trying to sell you something” influencers. Chinese influencers seem to just stay in their little bubble of focused content.
In solidarity with our US friends, I shall not install that app on my phone.
I was thinking a social media app without Americans sounds wonderful.
Probably time to try Loops or something else.
That’s ‘Loops by Pixelfed’ for anyone else wondering: https://loops.video/
Too bad Loops is basically impossible to join. The verification email takes literal hours, if it ever arrives at all.
If they’re trying to grow the platform, that’s a horrible way to do it.
