So at the end of the month I’m going to have to move from Lumo Energy, as their current rates will expire.
Any recommendations for energy retailers? Energy Compare recommends Sumo energy but I’ve read some very unfavorable things about them. Also they’ve spammed me for a month on account of the fact I was forced to give an email address to check their rates in detail.
Sumo were also a bit unclear about the details of what you are signing up to and what the differences between their plans is. I was going to go with them, but they seemed a bit dodgy and another company became cheaper anyway when I did the compare again.
I ended up with Nectr for electricity, GloBird for gas. Nectr did have a dodgy estimate of the total price on their website, but the actual rates were the best. I have found that the Energy Compare site is the best resource if you enter your meter number, as it uses the actual use patterns you have. Make sure you select the option to include time of use plans on the left hand side to see all the options, depending on when you use power you may save money.
One thing to be aware with globird: they do a lot of estimating. They bill monthly, but rely on utility meter reads so every few months you get a wild bill in either direction
AGL used to do the same thing - I think any of them that do monthly billing have to estimate and they seem to do a pretty bad job of it. That was nice with Lumo, they would only bill you when the meter was actually read.

Nectr is coming up cheapest for me too. Although not necessarily by a big margin.
