FFS surely the Labor Party can find better candidates than this. It’s often said that no one who wants to be a polititian is a good choice. Maybe we need to stop having willing candidates for parliament and have a compulsory system where we can nominate and vote for anyone, whether they actually want to be a polititian or not.

I think the “rant” was probably facetious. But consider we have a system where people are compelled to perform jury service whether they want to or not. If parliamentary service worked the same way, it would preclude career politicians who lose touch with their electorates.
