I would say most sardines taste a fair bit less salty than the Brunswick Kippers. Texture is softer - less flaky. Taste is quite different, sardines definitely taste like sardines and not much else.
There are also, broadly speaking, two different varieties. One type is ‘standard’ let’s say, they are about the size of… A narrower tim-tam. These are more strongly flavoured, and softer.
Type two, are called ‘briesling’ sardines. They are significantly smaller. Maybe 60% the size of a pinky finger. They have a much milder taste, and firmer texture. I prefer the brieslings by a lot. If I can recommend one to you, it would be ‘King Oscar Briesling Sardines in Olive oil’. They’re about $2.50 in Coles. Go great by themselves with some sauce, mixed into scrambled eggs, pasta, whatever. Give em a go ☺️
I still have the John west kippers to try as well
I’ll probably save it for next’s lunch or something. Will be interesting to see if it’s as good as the one I had today.
I haven’t tried sardines. Are they very salty and what is the texture of them like compared to Herring?
