This is a screenshot from ECQ’s expenditure disclosure page, showing the three main parties’ largest expenditures.

Note that it shows:

  • For LNP: all expenditures over $10,000
  • For Labor: all expenditures over $1,000
  • For the Greens: all expenditures over $500

As a summary:

  • The LNP spent just over $1,000,000 counting only the expenditures over $10,000 each (the top 12 of their 55 expenditures)
  • Labor spent over $283,000 counting only expenditures above $1,000 each (that’s the top 15 of their 35 expenditures)
  • The Greens spent just over $18,300 on their expenditures over $500 each (the top 9 of 31 expenditures)

And as a free bonus, here are all of independent Councillor Nicole Johnston from Tennyson Ward’s expenditures:

Am I the only one who finds “full pade advertisment” funny? Nobody seems to be talking about that one!

It’s also a little unfair to compare Nicole Johnston’s spending with the parties - presumably the parties are campaigning on behalf of multiple candidates? I’m sure the numbers would still come out very tilted if the parties were broken down per candidate and we’d be able to make the same point.

Oh ha! I didn’t notice that. In fact I barely noticed that column at all!

But yeah I definitely wasn’t trying to create a 1:1 comparison with Cr Johnston. I put her there because she’s interesting, and she’s the only ward candidate who disclosed anything that I found. I didn’t look at all wards, but did go through maybe 7 or 8 different ones at random.

And immediately after posting this, I just noticed that some of those Greens expenditures aren’t even on BCC elections. Their 4th and 6th largest expenditures were on an Ipswich and a Sunshine Coast Council campaign.

If you take those two out, they’re actually only spending $15,500 in BCC, from their >$500 expenditures.

Also, check out what they’ve each given for “purpose of the expenditure”. Labor has been absolutely useless and should honestly face a fine for not conforming with the requirements.

LNP is not great, but at least passable.

Greens have been great in their specificity.

Doesn’t seem like the LNP are overly confident in the election and appear desperate to cling onto power through propaganda rather than interacting with their constituency. At the same time though rather difficult to claim that I guess.

Edit: this really stands out to me:

They needed to pay people ~80k to understand how to win the election instead of just talking to people

I love campaing research! It’s my favourite kind of research!

At least that one looks like a genuine typo.

Yeah, but typos in professional documents will never not be funny. Especially when the product of the typo follows English phonotactics and can be pronounced like it was a real world.

Yeah @[email protected] that was totally my bad. I accidentally said “donations” in that one part of this post, but this isn’t donations. I’ve updated the post to be more accurate.

Donations over a certain size are required to be disclosed too, if I understand correctly. They’re just not on the page this post is about.
