Holy shit John Brown himself was so fucking sick of hearing this exact argument made about slavery he killed slavers with a giant sword.

No he had a broadsword and his sons beheaded a slaver. He also stole George Washington’s sword from his slaver great nephew and wielded it against the white supremacists at Harper’s Ferry (I believe by some accounts he parried a sword thrust from an opponent around a door corner)

And don’t make John Brown an irrational religious zealot or mentally insane either, which are the common depictions of him in media. He was religious, but it was not irrational religious zealotry that fueled him but a great Christlike love and compassion and understanding. If you read his life accounts he was greatly admired by the communities he was a part of and he also treated Native Americans very well.

I believe one time a white supremacist possy tried to round up some native Americans nearby and tried to recruit John and his sons, and he told them he would rather form a possy against the white supremacists and drove them off his territory

Ethan Hawke starred as John Brown in Good Lord Bird pretty recently so I doubt Tarantino will make a John Brown flick. Also Tarantino has never actually made a historical film where the main characters are real historical figures. He has stuff like Inglourious Basterds where Hitler gets killed, but none of the main characters in that movie were real.

He beheaded at least one slaver with a broadsword, or rather his men did.

Late in the evening, they called at the house of James P. Doyle and ordered him and his two adult sons, William and Drury, to go with them as prisoners. (Doyle’s 16-year-old son, John, who was not a member of the pro-slavery Law and Order Party, was spared after his mother pleaded for his life.) The three men were escorted by their captors out into the darkness, where Owen Brown and his brother Frederick killed them with broadswords. John Brown Sr. did not participate in the stabbing but fired a shot into the head of the fallen James Doyle to ensure he was dead.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they are the children of God” – Jesus Christ

“I, John Brown am now quite certain that the crimes of this guilty land will never be purged away but with blood.” – John Brown

Clearly, we can all see the parallels.

I’ve seen more than a few pro-Israeli comments say “if they stole your mom and siblings would you call for a ceasefire?? Wouldn’t you want the most severe reaction from Israel?” Like what the fuck, no, if my family is held hostage please stop shooting and bombing everyone! I haven’t seen any real person make this argument, it seems like desperate propaganda that is clearly failing.

I saw the second interview between Piers and Bassem Yousef and when Bassem asked if the government should destroy the empire state building if it had terrorists inside and Piers was like “Well that’s the question isn’t it”

Israel has literally driven people to insanity.

Also apparently an Israeli politician has already said that they can’t fear for the hostages and disregard their soldiers’ lives.

That is wild, for a conflict that doesn’t have a direct impact on average Americans I am surprised how far some supporters of Israel will admit they will go. This almost seems like a conflict that people could fight over in the US, from the seriousness I’ve seen people talk about it, even if all major politicians of both parties support Israel. There is just such extreme propaganda pushing the Israeli position, and people opposed to Israel have been seeing endless murder for decades (paid for in part by US taxes) and desperately want to end it.

It was on the first or second day after Oct 7th that I saw an IDF spokesperson saying “the hostages are already killed, Hamas had no intention of releasing them.” This was a clear signal they were not even going to try to save them. And then later when it comes out that someone like the German-Israeli woman at the music festival was killed, people will be like “oh Hamas how could you!” When it was likely she was killed by IDF bombing.

Well that’s just an admission that soldier lives are more valuable than civilian lives. Not surprising coming from the only faction in this conflict actually confirmed to use human shields with evidence.

the radicalism of the past is easier for libs to swallow. history’s only purpose for them is to justify the status quo. john brown is good because he was part of the process that brought us this far. he needn’t push us any further.

“During the lifetime of great revolutionaries, the oppressing classes constantly hounded them, received their theories with the most savage malice, the most furious hatred and the most unscrupulous campaigns of lies and slander. After their death, attempts are made to convert them into harmless icons, to canonize them, so to say, and to hallow their names to a certain extent for the “consolation” of the oppressed classes and with the object of duping the latter, while at the same time robbing the revolutionary theory of its substance, blunting its revolutionary edge and vulgarizing it.”

            I think it fits.

Slavery is none other than the most barbarous, unprovoked and unjustifiable war of one portion of its citizens against another portion, the only conditions of which are perpetual imprisonment and hopeless servitude, or absolute extermination. I, John Brown, am now quite certain that the crimes of this guilty land can never be purged away but with blood.

Wait, I’m losing my twitter stan, let me start over.

I, John Brown, remain baffled that anyone who isn’t a slaver or a slave can look at this conflict and feel so strongly that one side’s cause is so just and the other’s so wicked that it demands everyone take the same, extremely strong position.

On the one hand I can agree that slaves have had much difficulty and their situation is unbearable, but the slavemaster too is merely fighting to protect his property; this is actually a very complex issue and we don’t want to see violence enter the picture. Both sides just need to sit down and talk to each other.

This guy tried to make an argument that John Brown would support Israel because of the Bible, but the Bible also doesn’t condemn slavery and tells slaves to obey their masters, and John Brown clearly fucking disagreed with that.
