G’day.

Nine News seemingly stole my Dashcam footage, added a crappy caption, removed the date (so misrepresented it, but it was from years ago), and I have multiple requests for them to remove it.

Just wondering what could be done in this circumstance?

    I licensed my dashcam footage via places like Junkin and Viral Hog. They then license it on your behalf and give you dollarydoos.

    As you’ve found the “”““journalists””“” still just steal it from socials and give you nothing so you may as well license it and get something for it.

    Also if you upload it to places like dashcam owners Australia they’ll just do exactly that and claim the cash so you may as well do it first.

      Ok… that makes sense… Because, thats where it came from… Although, it still said I retain ownership of the footage when uploading. Thanks for the info

        I’ve had a few clips go viral. The first one I got all bitter and twisted and tried getting it taken down, but the best I got was “credit” which ended up being “Source: YouTube”. Morning more.

        The second I have permission IF they linked my actual YouTube channel. They gave “Credit: YouTube/Krawler”.

        On the third I just gave up and licensed it to one of the companies that always hit you up the second something goes viral. I think Junkin was the first I went with. I got $1500 in royalties for that one, and used it to buy a new dashcam and gave $500 to a breast cancer charity at the request of the other bloke involved who I offered half to.

        My wife got one not much later and went with ViralHog. She got a similar amount at the time, though the video still pops up occasionally on Lad Bible type Facebook accounts with credit “via ViralHog” but we haven’t seen a royalty in a long time.

        I think the big key is getting it on your own YouTube channel which is already monetized, then they do a copyright claim and monetize it themselves. This prevents it being stripped from Facebook etc where there’s no licensing in place at all.

    How do you think they acquired it? If you shared it on the old socials they might have claimed it as theirs and sold Nine got their permission?
