It must be surreal to be the designer and original owner of something so iconic.

So you’re at a party, you swapped jackets with someone and now somehow the PM is wearing your custom made jacket? Ok.

End of the night, “can I have my jacket back, please?”
    “No.”

I don’t understand how this part works. Someone can just take your property, decide it has national significance and put it in a museum? Did they compensate him for the jacket? The article doesn’t say.

I’ve seen the jacket at the Maritime museum in Freo, I didn’t realise it was basically stolen though.

I totally believe this story. When my cousin was a baby her dad had her with him at a shin dig at the governors house for the Swedish Prince/King, long story short she spent most of the party being held by the royal as he went around meeting people and talking. Funny stuff happens at parties.

I especially believe some self important security guard telling the ‘pleb’ no.

The museum part would be interesting to hear more about, but i’d imagine the museum was looking for objects of significance to put in the America’s Cup collection and sought the jacket out. Might have even gone through the people at the yacht club.

The museum opened in 2002. I was there on that first day. Which was nearly 20 years after the Americas Cup.

I’m not positive. I sure didn’t go on the sub that first visit. The crowds were insane, we were lining up for 2 hours to get in, and I had about 20 minutes inside. I definately remember Australia II being there. I was surprised at how small it was. That boat was massive in my mind. I’m not sure about the jacket, but it probably was there.

It was a fun day. There was also a Million paws walk that same day, We had my dog with me. There were lots of dogs around. It was not a boring line experience with the carnival atmosphere.
