The WA government is pressing ahead with its plan to create a motorsport street circuit in Burswood Park.
It is opening the community consultation process for the controversial new proposal.
But Treasurer Rita Saffioti has denied it will only be a motorsport track, saying it will be a “multi-use facility”.
Ms Saffioti said for most of the year the area would be closed to motor vehicles
That’s annoying, Australia needs more tracks people can actually use. Instead we get this sort of thing and it’s still not good enough for the anti vehicle crowd (who are more than happy to tell you to take it to a track but then turn around and do their best to block even use of existing tracks, let alone new ones).
Yeah, its a tight use case, but it is incredibly central. I think its really for exhibiting the Perth scenery, not as a new motorsport home.
Motorsport enthusiasts have a dedicated area up at Wanneroo, i don’t know if theres much restriction on engine noise at all up there. But that area is where most motorsport related things are based now. Including our motorsport royalty Daniel Ricciardo apparently has a big two storey garage/workshop up there.
I wonder if it would have been possible to have incorporated a slightly larger street circuit in to the future development at the racecourse on the other side of the freeway?
a good chunk of that is about to become high-rise apartments. on wet riverbank. but would be a better place for the motor track part of the plans
Gona need cement for days for that development. Definitely seems like they’re pushing too far with those high rises. I’ll not be surprised if the hardened shoreline causes all kinds of issues down river. Let alone the impact on wetland area.
But hey, maybe they’re not going to remove as much of the wetland area as i think they will, maybe they have a plan for drainage so the hard edge doesn’t act to drown whats left of the small wetland in front. Maybe…
