A low-hanging fruit on YouTube/etc. is “[Nationality] TRIES [nationality] FOOD FOR THE FIRST TIME!!”, you know the type, but a few of them are actually entertaining or have novel commentary and not just vapid “i lieked this/i didnt like vegemite” reaction filler.
Bonus points for any that involve actual recipes (e.g. a pavlova) instead of just packaged lollies, biscuits and spreads.
Probably not really what you’re looking for, but there was that time that ‘Binging with Babish’ did “The Duck Cake from Bluey” not realising that ‘Bluey’ was referencing an actual recipe in the classic ‘Women’s Weekly Birthday Cake Book’ 😆
I really appreciate Babish’s deadpan humour style, it’s a nice contrast to the plastic enthusiasm of most cooking shows.
“The Try Guys” have a series of Aus videos, they’re long-form professionally-made 20 minute episodes. These are the main food ones:
- We Made Meat Pies & Ate Gourmet Australian BBQ - Meat pies, meat restaurant (kangaroo skewer, wagyu beef, pork ribs, lamb shanks)
- The Try Guys Eat $1,200 Of Gourmet Seafood - Vegemite on toast (actually spread thinly, for once), high-end restaurant seafood (oysters, spanner crab, marron, mussels, sea urchin, honey bugs, scallops, abalone, prawn, mackerel, wine and beer)
- Keith Eats Everything At McDonald’s Australia - i guess they blew their budget on the last two videos lol. well its a little better than Chas Licciardello ordering everything
This one is a huge family trying Australian lollies, but I’m surprised it wasn’t just the standard most-famous ones, it has Chomp bars, Violet Crumble, Curlywurly’s, Freddo frogs, Freckles, Caramellos, Minties, Clinkers, Wizz Fizz (“is this like a drink mix?”), Tim Tams and Warheads, and including some international ones like Mars bars, Milky Way and Smarties.

Warheads:
There’s one of Neil deGrasse Tyson losing his shit over Tim Tams:
haha I wasn’t expecting the UNSW intro. This video is absolutely preaching to a choir but it’s a great little clip.
Guy Fieri trying an Australian bakery in Kansas (Missouri, USA), Banksia. Not quite the same vibe as the vids I was talking about, it’s more like an SBS food show segment, but I’d say worth a mention. (and the presentation isn’t too Americanised, which is nice)

There are two sections of them showing how they make the potato beef pies and the sausage rolls w/ fennel.
