The ABC has been given exclusive access to one of five new underground stations being built as part of the Metro Tunnel Project. Despite some cost overruns and controversy, test trains are expected to start running later this year.

    When this was announced I worked nearby and was excited about how much quicker I could get to work. Now, we don’t even have an office and everybody is working at home.

    Can’t wait for these stations to open. It’ll ease a lot of pressure off Flinders Street and South Yarra

    There have been cost overruns, with a 2022 Victorian Auditor-General’s Office report finding the project would cost $12.58b — a 14 per cent increase on the 2017 approved project budget.

    That’s a bargain considering the fact inflation means things have gone up 24% around this project in the meantime.
