This post is for voting on /c/rage’s Lemmyvision 2 song nomination.

Over the past few weeks, our community has submitted nominations, and we have until April 1 to pick a winner. Our Lemmyvision representative, @Gorgritch_umie_killa, has delegated our election to an independent agency, the Aussie.zone Eureka Commission (AEC).

Anyone who has recently commented a few times on aussie.zone before today is allowed to vote. (This includes, for example, some quokk.au users and various Australian Lemmy users on other instances)

This election uses preferential Instant-Runoff Voting[wiki] just like our federal elections. Put simply, this means that if your [1] choice has no chance of election, your vote then runs over to your [2] choice, and so on, so there’s no disadvantage in picking an unpopular song you love for your first votes, your vote is not ‘wasted’ at all. Vote sincerely.

A couple of the nominations weren’t released during 2024, we’ve received confirmation from the organiser that they’re allowed!

Here are the entries. Please listen to them all before voting:

Here is the ballot template for you to fill in. Copy and paste it as a new reply to this post, and number ALL boxes from 1 to 10 in order of your choice. [1] is your first preference, [10] is your last preference.

It’s funny, I’ve always wanted TISM to represent Oz in Eurovision, however this song is way to Aussie specific for me to vote it highly this time.

I know what you mean, they’ve always been a group which, on paper, seem like peak Eurovision - playful, performative (two of their members didn’t even play instruments or sing), a midpoint of indie and pop, and plenty of their songs have enough originality and depth to make me want to listen again and again. This song just didn’t feel like a hit to me, it was the tamer side of their formula - it had their core themes (pop rock style, yob sports nostalgia, extrapolating Australian layman culture to deeper ideas, existentialism and angst) but none of them strong enough to stand above the other candidates here.

Also doesn’t help that the song appeals most to 50+ year olds who grew up in the AFL-playing states.

Yeah, same. I probably should have nominated Old School TISM (the other song they released in the eligibility period) instead or as well. It probably wouldn’t have been voted much higher, though. It’s more meta, but less obscure - though the idea of sending a song so totally opaque beyond a specific demographic as '70s Football was also funny to me.
