Predictions are updated and the models are all mostly agreeing, looking like landfall late tomorrow evening. Hopefully not too much damage with the spicy weather incoming. And lord I hope my power isn’t out for 10 days like in the 2022 floods!

We’ve got two generators and an EV with V2L… And 4 x 30,000mah battery banks.

Hopefully that gets us through! I like my comforts too much

Jesus ten days !?!? That must’ve been hellish. Did you lose much food in the fridge and freezer ? And yeah we really do take electricity for granted. Did you still go to work or Uni or whatever you do, did you read books, what did you get up to ? Due to the many trees we have here we lose power often, and Energex have to come from Cleveland so that can be a pain. But it’s only ever been for many hours, not days. That would drive lots of people nuts. So yeah good luck.

I also lost power for about that long in 2022. I evacuated Sunday afternoon after the power first went out. Returned Monday afternoon (needing to explain myself to UQ security staff so they would let me through the only not-flooded route to my place, which required driving through uni grounds and up through pedestrian areas) and brought my stuff out of the freezer back to where I was staying temporarily. The ice cream was mostly but not completely melted, so the rest of it recovered alright.

Lost the whole fridge by the end of that :( And didn’t go to work the first few days, as was basically as island at the time because of the floods. I red my book, until it and my battery backups eventually went flat, lol modern times.

People are losing their minds about this windyboi.

There’s currently posts being shared in the local Facebook groups helpfully suggesting that you put water in ziploc bags to make sure you have enough drinking water on hand. I need that shrugging dude pointing to bottles.

I did consider filling up every glass in my cupboard with water.

Decided it wasn’t worth the effort on the extremely slim chance we lose water, are unable to evacuate, and things can’t be restored before the water that’s normally in my fridge (which is probably, like, 6 litres between the water bottles I use for sport and the jugs I use so I don’t have to drink warm water directly out of the tap) runs out.
