Would or should my landlord cough up for a service for my split system AC? Anyone asked for it before?

I would assume that if the AC came with the property when you rented it, then it would be the landlord’s responsibility to cover maintenance costs. We clean ours semi-regularly (unit, filters etc.) since it’s our only source of heating and cooling, but haven’t had it serviced yet. There’s something on this website that kind of? says the same thing but it’s not super clear.

It did come with the place. I am sure it is overdue for a service, it has been a bit smelly on the heating cycle since I moved in line 18 months ago. Bit concerned about mould and bacteria so will seriously consider asking for a service.

My mum’s a property manager and she said this “Renter responsibility is to keep the unit and filters clean, maintenance is on the owner”.
