With the summer solstice and first official day of summer on June 21, hot and dry conditions have already given rise to a very active fire season across Canada.
I wonder if, being attracted to smoke, the insects get disrupted by things like cool leaf burnoffs that would create similar smoke without being hot or large enough to creat the breeding conditions they are looking for?
