As Australia tries to control the risk of rabies from the importation of cats and dogs, these pet owners say the country's strict policy has cost them time, money and in one case, their dog's health.
Big respect for the owners who move to the quarantine country with their dogs, particularly that couple that lost $50,000 as a result. I don’t know how anyone could send their dog off by itself for 6 months. From the dog’s perspective it has been abandoned indefinitely for a time that will feel like several years, relative to its total lifespan. That is so, so cruel.
6 months seems like a long time. When my friend’s family moved from the UK to Australia back in ~2005 their dog was in quarantine for 1 month. I wonder what the differences are and/or what changes have occurred since then.
