Yes, it hit as hard as I thought it would. But I’m older now and can see that movie was written by kids, genius kids but kids. 😉
It’s true, easy work is relaxing, it leaves the mind free.
Luck is more important than most people know.
Choices in life aren’t usually dichotomous, you don’t have to choose between a person/people and opportunity. If you can, choose both.
Still shits me that society thinks smart people have a duty to self actualise and serve society. If there is duty the duty goes both ways. You want what brains can give, then give brains some support and respect their freedom of choice.
I recently read “Outliers” by Malcolm Gladwell, which looked at what leads people to make extraordinary achievements. Basically, genius is not enough, there is also a lot of luck and social support required. I highly recommend it, and it definitely supports what you are saying here.
