Don’t cross the virtual picket line at Nine Publishing.

From 11am AEST on Friday, July 26 until 11am AEST on Wednesday, July 31, we will join the virtual picket line in support of the #MEAAmedia members at Nine Publishing on strike.

That means we will not share or click on any articles from Nine mastheads, Sydney MorningHerald, The Age, Financial Review, Brisbane Times and WA Today, and won’t buy the papers.

Guess I won’t change what I’m doing then. Do they deserve more money for writing absolute drivel and propaganda? Given how much their company makes from it maybe

I dunno about the other arms, but BT has actually become really quite good over the last year or so.

Plus, it’s unclear to me whether they want us to boycott Channel 9’s TV coverage of the Olympics or not. They did say we should avoid their Olympics reporting, but never specifically called out TV. That’s a much bigger ask I’d say.

Yeah I don’t think people will want to skip the Olympics—I’ll probably just watch highlights and the Equestrian Eventing (No Andrew Hoy this year unfortunately), it will all be on at a really early time anyway

I don’t blame the workers for the constraints of their garbage company. I doubt they can just pick what they want to write about, they’re ultimately working to survive and taking the jobs on offer. Plus, systematic pressures on mass media are a whole thing.

If the workers get a pay rise, it digs into Nine Publishing’s egregeous profits. There’s also the broader impact of successful strike action on the rest of the labour movement in our fights for decent conditions. Solidarity is strength.
