Just a general thread about running. How’s your running going? What are you training for? Did you get new shoes? Sporting an injury etc…

I’m not training for a particular race. Just working toward the goal of being able to jog/trot for progressively longer periods in the service of losing weight and keeping diabetes under control.

I have two cardio days per week, currently, with three or four strength training days. I do 45 minutes on a treadmill, aiming to alternate 90 seconds of walking and 90 seconds of trotting.

I log my time, distance, and average heart rate.

Eventually I’d like to be able to handle a 5k run and complete it in about 30 minutes. Currently in my 45 minute sessions I’m only getting to about 2.8 mi / 4.5 km so I have a ways to go.

Maybe not so far as you think. Keep increasing the time you are running little by little, and before long you’ll be able to run for 30 minutes without stopping.

3-4 strength training days 2 cardio sessions is unreal. Keep at it, you are on the right track. Try extending the running time gradually. I tried running previously like 15 years ago but got severe shinsplints which put me off it for a long time.

I started going to parkruns in nov 22. I just ran as far as I could then alternated walking / running the rest of the way. It took me about 45 mins and I thought I was gonna die.

It took me until early April 23 to actually run the entire 5k without stopping. Time was down to 41 mins. Slow progression helped immensely in avoiding major injuries.

Also, don’t sell yourself short. You know what walking is. If you’re going faster than that you’re running. Jogging is just slow running (I’m sure there is a technical definition somewhere). If your going 45 mins alternate run/walk then stuff it thats a solid 45 min run in my book.
