I went to Woolworths today to buy a mudcake for my birthday. The chocolate mudcake had chocolate icing and chocolate swirls, instead of the classic chocolate icing with white chocolate swirls. An absolute outrage!
I headed down to the local Coles instead to buy my mudcake.
Isn’t the new mudcake also more expensive?

Seems like the “classic” chocolate mud cakes at Colesworth are both $5.75 after dropping from $6.40 a few days ago. The one you were after is still listed on their website so I guess they just didn’t have any out the front while you were there. I have definitely seen them less at my local too; maybe they are trying to make people buy the more expensive one? There are always a load of those caramel and white chocolate ones around too (also more expensive than the plain chocolate one).

The thing is, the one I did see isn’t listed anywhere on their website, and I’m pretty sure its label described it as “Mud Cake Chocolate”, same as the one on the website that I was looking for. I suspect the recipe was updated but the website hasn’t yet reflected this. Or alternatively, that something weird happened with that particular batch and they didn’t come out right, but Woollies decided to sell them anyway.
Tell you what, it may or may not be more expensive than it used to be, but this damn Coles cake seems significantly smaller than I remember.
Maybe someone forgot to order the white chocolate. Disgraceful.
