all my friends went to nola for billy strings. fuck that shit. i’m going to be bored and stink up my mom’s house. i tried to invite everybody to my mom’s house but instead they’re down there genociding alligators.

I don’t like the TV specials. They’re boring pop concerts, just like the tree ceremony in Rockefeller Center and the Thanksgiving parade. It’s so tedious how commercially choreographed it all is. The Nivea sponsorship in the last decade of shows has been particularly glaring to the point that it breaks even the bounds of parody. I don’t know how boomers still find that stuff so compelling after watching it for 40 years.
Oh man. I watched one of those last year for the first time in probably a decade, and it was some of the most dogshit television I have ever seen. Like even the hosts seemed bored. Wouldn’t be nearly as bad if they got people with even just the tiniest bit of wit or charisma to host. Whole thing felt like an AI fever dream that was also somehow a commercial. Went to bed feeling sick from it. Maybe I’ll watch again tonight to see if it’s even worse this year.
Just pull an Irish goodbye and leave at 11:30 and return to your sweater bugs.
