I honestly can’t imagine what the motive for this would be. I can kind of understand that ‘some people want to watch the world burn’ logic, but this required work. Not just watching.
My money’s on tiktock or some other dumbass shit
Stupid kid
Cutting this 200 year old tree is bad but the AU government cutting down hundreds of trees of similar age for fucking car infrastructure is fine?
Nobody here is saying that though. Big old trees being cut down anywhere is saddening regardless of why.
???
You’re not wrong and I get where you are coming from. Hardly worth downvoting you and I don’t understand why people do it.
One tree is nothing in the big scheme, that’s for sure, but it doesn’t take away from it either. If stories like this go “viral” then maybe someone will think twice…who the fuck knows. Take the below example as one, people do some really weird fucked up shit to trees:
The Separation Tree was a heritage-listed Eucalyptus camaldulensis tree located in the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria in Melbourne, Victoria[1]. It was a Melbourne landmark and is best known as the site where the citizens of the city congregated on 15 November 1850 to celebrate when the news that Victoria was to separate from the colony of New South Wales after it had been announced by Governor La Trobe[1]. The tree was approximately 24 m (79 ft) in height with a canopy that was around 27 m (89 ft) wide[1]. The tree canopy and parts of the trunk were lopped in 2015 after it was confirmed to be dead. By July 2015, only the main trunk and parts of three scaffold limbs remained[1]. The tree was dying due to two separate ringbarking attempts by vandals, who also targeted collections of other plants[2][6]. The tree predates white settlement of Melbourne and would have been a sapling in the 17th century when the Boonwurrung and Woiwurrung met and camped beside the Yarra River[2]. The Separation Tree was a relic of that time[2]. There are 26 separate plantings of saplings of the original tree scattered around Victoria, including one in the botanic gardens in Melbourne and another in the garden at… [1].

If stories like this go “viral” then maybe someone will think twice…who the fuck knows. I guess that’s true, I’ll keep that in mind.
The separation tree thing you noted is indeed very fucked up, and it’s sad that there’s people that do this.
Also, thanks for including citations. I’m sure it’ll be useful for others that might come across this.
