Now we just need 420 million hectares of micro-forests.
then the best day to get started was yesterday. second best is today.
looks like we going with second best.
Not sure where you live, but I grew up in a midwest city that participated in the Tree City USA program and it was pretty nice. Didn’t have the whole surrounded by smaller plants which is even better, but at least the trees helped with shade and keeping some of the grass and other small plants from completely evaporating in the summer sun.
I’m sure many other countries have their own comparable programs.
Missouri
You’re god damn right we do.
/c/trees agrees
Not many people reading article eh?
It’s not trees in Japanese urban cities (they keep getting cut yikes) but ones planted using Japanese botanist method. It plants native and climate appropriate species to grow climax community on the go in packed manner. In theory, once established ‘the forests’ have stable ecosystem and don’t need external intervention. The theory now considered working, though the timespan to see if it truly works is centuries, and has been adopted over south Asia, east Asia and Europe.
How do you prevent the trees from damaging the buildings or being a fire risk (outside of Japan)
I prefer macro-forests. You know ones you can actually walk in without seeing the other side or hearing traffic. But every little bit helps I guess.
Why not both?
Oops, all forests
Goddamn it the Japanese are becoming wood elves.
This is honestly awesome
Lived in Japan for more than 2 decades. Never saw one.
Japanese cities have a surprising lack of green tbh.
Citizens-forests.org is one that I know, they do projects in Hamburg and around
It’s not shitty, out of control weeds, babe. It’s a Japanese Micro Forest. Get with it.
I saw somewhere this same technique had been adopted in England too. Sounds cool.
Germany does this really well in all its cities and towns. Germans love nature.
