Services offered by Melbourne’s famous tourist tram will be permanently halved, while a special weekend crowd-busting service on St Kilda trams is to be axed.
It’s been nearly 10 years since I worked in Docklands, and regularly took the City Circle train up to Melbourne Central (or back). But, whether it was at lunch time or after work, those trams were always pretty busy.
Assuming they are still busy, why would that service get cut?
I went on one for the whole loop earlier this year and yeah it was chockers. In the school holidays it gets even more packed
Based on article and my constant cycnism, I’m leaning towards the theory they intentionally fucked it up, called it a “tourist tram” then used the fact it’s a tourist service and carries a lower priority than services everyone uses for regular commuting to cut half the services. But the article says the blame it on driver shortages
