It absolutely has meaning. It’s like rainbow capitalism. It is ridiculed here on this site all the time and is a prime example of how liberalism prioritizes the PR campaigniness of proving they are doing good vs actually doing anything good at all. We are in the deep end of it and it’s fucking wild.

I enjoy all of Nolan movies but had to turn this one off about 40min in. I may give it another chance someday. The dialogue was unbearable. I think Nolans other movies being clearly supernatural nonsense fiction give them a pass in this regard. I felt embarrassed by the movie.

The hugely disproportionate income and social/cultural capital received by these super good “shape rotator” dweebs in modern society is precisely why and how they get to this level of unexamined smug fart sniffing.

This could be debated but… sci fi dystopia is meant to highlight the horror we are in right now, not necessarily some prediction of the future. The use of an exaggerated fictional future is meant to shake off the intense normalization of existing in modernity.

Little late to the thread but really enjoying your posts. Curious on your thoughts if you don’t mind:

As a philosophy newbie myself, could it be a lot of this discussion/debate is due to people having no exposure to the metaphysical concepts of objectivity/subjectivity? It seems a bit portion of your argument is that people who believe we can achieve ai sentience are already committed to a (leap of faith) absolute belief in the “physicalist” model/understanding of the universe?

Also regarding the idea of a “Unified Theory of Everything”, do you believe in this as a possibility? Is having that as a goal or destination in of itself a representation of a particularly misguided “physicalist” way of thinking that many people are already committed to/trapped within?

Those men are kinda sad tho so actually they are very nuanced
