Professionally/commercially they’re MILES ahead of Red hat, Oracle, or Suse.

Personally/free they do weird shit that usually doesn’t seem make sense on its surface if you’re not getting paid to learn it.

Take snaps for example: flatpak/app image/whatever makes more sense if you only care nothing beyond getting/running the software; but in a professional setting where you need third party info for something like an sbom or some sort of industry compliancy, snaps make it easy.

  • However, history has shown

i think that this is the key part. i’m unaware of a leftist victory in the global north since the great depression and i suspect it’s because the hegemonic powers have gotten so good and so organized at mitigating possible class cohesion that we’re stuck in this pattern until something very drastic happens to society centuries/millennia from now; making a leftist victory a practical impossibility for any of us in ours or the next several generation’s lifetimes.

  • pizza hut in the small town i grew up in stayed like that until the 2018 when the sole owner died and his inheritors outsourced its management rather than returning to bfe to run it (i don’t blame them) and i feel like that’s how most older establishments enshittify.

there was no way he was making money, but he CLEARLY loved pizza & people and was happy doing it.

  • i wish i had advice to offer you, but i’m in a similar boat with my senior cat.

i was devastated when my senior dogs & cats passed away and i was able to weather it each time it happened thanks entirely to my other pets commiserating with me; my 16 year old cat is the last one left alive and he’s been by my side through all of those deaths.

the bar for approval to get another pet from the shelter is far too high; too long; and too invasive were i live for my attempts to be successful, so i’ve only adopted pets that i found on the streets and those that others wanted to surrender to the shelter.

i’m on the spectrum which makes human relationships very difficult to create and maintain, which means that my cat is my life.

i cannot express how much i dread the inevitable day that i have to see him suffering once he gets ill and i have to decide to it’s best to end his life.

i hope you’re better prepared than i am.
