    I wonder if this would actually deter would-be rapists or incentivize them to simply murder the child so they can’t talk. This seems incredibly reckless without data to support killing these criminals actually reduces child rapes.

    Also, I think they might be surprised when these highly conservative legislative bodies execute their hometown pastors instead of drag queens.

      These are the same people who want to classify being gay or trans or dressing in drag in front of children a sex crime.

      There’s no evidence that capital punishment deters murder, so I’m not sure why it would deter rape.

      I imagine there’s still a fair amount of theft in Saudi Arabia despite their cutting the hands off of thieves.

      Justice systems where punishments can be meted out that are purely punitive are not especially just.

        That assumes the it’s intended to be punishment. I would argue the goal of the laws, stated or not, is vengeance.

        ETA: I’m not disagreeing with your statement. Just offering a modified viewpoint.
