I’m trying to use it as a water pump for my aquarium. I’m using a 6V 4.5AH battery with a DC step up convertor to power the pump. After about 5 minutes it gets really hot. Is this expected?
.
Actually I tried searching for it, but could not find the datasheet for it. This was given to me by a friend. I believe he bought it from AliExpress. As for current, I’ll, measure it and let you know in a few days, I’m traveling right now.
.
I found a similar product with some number on its side. But so far nothing is coming up. I’ll keep searching.
Deleted, accidental reply.
It was probably a marginal product deliberately overdriven beyond “good design norms” to make it look good for the currently-missing data sheet.
Put it on a variable voltage power supply, run it at 6v to 12v in one volt steps, and measure its output volume for ten seconds at each step.
You might find that you still have adequate flow for your situation at a lower, cooler, voltage.
That’s a good suggestion. Thanks, I’ll try it out.
got a different model, but its getting pretty hot. maybe like 60-70°C
So does it stay 60-70 C the whole time or does it go beyond that after a while ? Also, have you tried running it continously for like 20 or 30 minutes by any chance?
stays like this, even after several hours of running.
Thanks
Yeah those things get quite warm. Did you check the data sheet? Also, make sure it’s intended for a continuous runtime.

Right, that does make it a bit more tricky. Is there any serial number or manufacturer?
I found something similar. I tried searching with the serial number but nothing came up.
There are a lot of fast moving part with variable pressures and friction all around. All these things create heat.
