I became so exhausted from the toxicity on Lemmy that I began searching for alternatives, and I stopped trying to argue in the comments. This leads me to wonder: am I the only one who is feeling this way?

I haven’t had a negative experience, so I checked your post history to see if your communities might provide any clues as to why you’re having a lot of negative experiences.

It looks like you post a lot to unpopular opinions and politics. Is it possible that maybe you’re inviting debate on contentious issues? For comparison, I checked my own history and it looks like I engage primarily with tabletop RPGs, technology, and memes. I also comment on world news, but it’s not my primary form of interaction.

This just popped up on my feed and I was like “Wait didn’t I just see you over there?” Yup, this is the same person who posted in [email protected] and now is upset that their opinion is… unpopular.

They may even be talking about my comment, who knows. They very glibly gave the (unpopular) opinion that Most people in the modern age can live without a car, but they are too lazy to do it. and are now upset that people (like me) are saying there may be some nuance to that and maybe it’s not so simple. Most people didn’t even disagree, but said that there is more too it than just “laziness”. Maybe, OP, just hear me out, but maybe our points are worth listening to rather than just saying we’re being toxic?

That and the general “I know better than everyone” authoritative speaking, that tends to rub people the wrong way.

I can’t see much from my instance because I don’t subscribe to political communities anyway, but I see comments with “I speak with the majority when I say” and followed by a long thread of people proving the opposite.

      Yeah that never ends well.

I’ve mostly had positive interactions on Lemmy 🤷‍♂️

Worth noting that the troll/shill accounts seem to have finally found the lemmy politics communities. Lots of ugly, bad faith arguments posted there. Might get better after the election.

Well, I creeped through OPs post history and came to the same conclusion. Although I have to agree with him on his post regarding “Durrr, 42069 funni numbers”.

Time to creep through yours in an effort to stay fair and balanced…

UPDATE: That’s a lot of rpg stuff and memes. And I refuse to look into who or what andrewgross is.

The problem with people’s opinions is that they’re just that, some people get very upset when their opinion isn’t validated by others.

My unpopular opinions is this world of only accepting inclusiveness and kindness and banning / blocking those who don’t, creates a false world. Real life isnt like that at all, people need to learn to deal with alternate opinions and not feel personally attacked.

Also look through my history im sure its bad haha

        Edit

I dont like grammer it seems. Added some punctuation.
