    Puppy update goes here:

Also, had a bit of a win recently with my home aquarium. I was poking around the YouTubes for Australian content, and found this bloke who has me feeling all nostalgic for the videos of old where the focus was on interesting content and not massive padding out to 10 minute so those sweet advertising dollars can flow. No “Hey whats up YouTube its your boy SparkleLad6969 coming at ya with another quick update video about some bollocks drama no one really cares about but before I get in to all that heres a recap of the last video I posted and also a word from my sponsor and hey SMASH that like button, WALLOP that bell icon, and SUBSCRIBE WITH GREAT PREJUDICE to my channel and also…”

Anyway I’ve had a drama with the return line on my sump not restarting the siphon itself after a power outage. Not a major drama cause it’s a bean animal overflow style (herbie + durso + emergency drain = bean animal) so it just goes down the overflow, but the issue with that is the overflow bypasses some of the filtration and is noisy as buggery until I get home and restart it manually.

Old mate in one of his videos just drops this little nugget about “yeah and I poked a hole in the top of my herbie drain to purge the air because if you have the outlet under water in the sump it can get an airlock and won’t restart itself”… Goddamit, that was my exact problem! Drilled a small hole in the top and voila. Works perfectly.

Literally the first time I’ve heard of that and he just drops it like its nothing. Then he throws down a little “if you run an air line from your durso to the water level it’ll turn it in to a siphon if the water level rises too far for more flow”. That’s genius! Again, first time I’ve heard of it. And I’ve watched plenty of aquarium videos because YouTube saw me watching one once and now it’s 90% of my recommendations.

Anyway. It was like hearing someone bust out the lyrics for the AquaDuck advert for no reason. Burst of nostalgia reminding me of a better time back when putting your pro tips on the internet was the thing to do for funsies, not pumping out multiple glitzy looking videos a week for the algo with a focus on monetising your content and aspiring to be a leechy “influencer”.

That actually sounds like a pro tip and not just… you know… common sense

      Puppies continue to be adorable.

In terms of videos with actual content, I absolutely agree. It’s one of the main reasons I only follow/watch certain channels. I recommend Steve Wallis (search for his name or “camping with Steve”) who does a weekly camping video. He does stealth camping, where he picks a spot he’s not supposed to be camping in and sneakily camps for the night. He also does ‘regular’ camping, but it’s pretty much always something unusual, like making a shelter out of bubble wrap, or camping in a body bag. I’m not really a camping person, but his videos are quite relaxing; a bit like if Bob Ross was Canadian and made videos about camping in the middle of a roundabout.

I’ve watched his stuff too for sure, though his sneaking gets kinda hilarious… All looking around and shit going “oh god I hope no one sees me going in here… Ok the coast is clear GO GO GO!” as if anyone passing by is going to give a single percentage care factor about someone in hivis with a pickup stick walking in to some public property.

Always wanted to buy a tautliner with a tailgate and stealth camp in that. For one, you can kit out the inside as a full tiny home, then slide the curtains over to hide it when travelling / when you need to actually stealth camp. And for two, you can flip the tailgate down and use it as a verandah. Be awesome to pull up somewhere in that, slide the sides open to reveal a real home with windows etc, then flip the tailgate down and sit on camp chairs watching the sunset.
