I’m legitimately kind of scared that the mainstream progressive position will become deriding and harassing kinky or sexual furries to “prove” how normal they are.

I’m seeing the beginning of it when the first thing out of any furry’s mouth when they mention it is “not ALL furries…”, as if having people with a functioning sex drive in your community is a black mark upon it, and we must ostracize and omit those people whenever possible. This is made very suspicious by the fact that those weird, sexual furries are the place where queer stuff is actually physically being done in the community, rather than just referenced or nodded to. Of course not every furry is fucking Carpet Sample but implicitly comparing every single person who has touched a pencil to an anthropomorphic wolf tiddy to fucking Carpet Sample is just…

“Social scab” theory holds up even under this insane culture war.

The overt sexuality is a big part of what’s allowed furry culture to grow so organically based on donations and commissions without being heavily coopted by Capital and going mainstream. In a weird way, it’s very difficult to recuperate furries. I think as more people find out about this and they become a cultural talking point for conservatives, this will change like you’ve outlined.

Tony The Tiger is still going to therapy for the Twitch.tv incident.

But I have had awful arguments with the most lib furries basically saying that the fandom should be sanitized and handed over to capital, like pride, because that’s what lead to LGBT+ normalization.

That “normalization” was completely non-intersectional and prioritized privileged queer people over others. I know you know this, but the conflation of social progressivism under liberalism with that of true liberation is maddening.

This is probably fine in one of the high schools in the rich suburbs, maybe rural Texas would be tough but I’m thinking Mississippi or Alabama would be more horrible. Or deep Appalachia.
