Ok so last night the very valid point was raised that our banner (and icon) are essentially the first stock image results for a search on “knitting”. Shoutout to @[email protected] for picking up on that.
It hardly represents our budding little community of weird creatives, though, does it?!
My first thought was actually to make this a more communal project. Perhaps a collage of some of the top-voted projects that have been posted here so far. That way future joiners would be greeted with the work of essentially our founders, which I think would be nice.
But at least two of you have an insatiable lust for competition and seemed excited for a contest, so far be it from me to take that away from you 😉
Here’s the plan:
- Closing date will be a week from now, Thursday 27th July at 19:30 UK time.
- My entry will be a collage as described above, so if you actually like that idea and want it to be official you can just sit tight (and maybe post some cool projects this week that you think should be in it).
- I won’t be offended if something else wins though, I just really like making collages.
- The only mobile app I’ve found that even shows banners is Jerboa and I’ve no idea what size that is, but on web the full-size banner is shown at 968x240px and in the sidebar it’s shown at 276x104px. Lemmyverse has them at 299x125px.
- Entries / suggestions / weird AI art of lemmings with knitting needles for a new community icon also welcome, I have no bright ideas there as of yet.
Get any entries in as replies to this post, and you never know, maybe by this time next week some Lemmy contributor will have added polls!
Oh this is awesome, I love it! Thank you for featuring my project, I certainly give you permission to use the picture.
Let me know if you need the lemming in svg format :)
Yeah please if you have it handy. I am feeling a bit better today but still not great so anything involving thinking or staring hard at the screen is still out in favour of lounging around on the couch and being brought food. Hopefully I’ll be sorted by tomorrow and will get the banner tested and made official!
