How do Democrats still not understand that giving concessions to the “merits” of fascist rhetoric (like they’re doing with trans people as well) will never make people think you’re more “reasonable”, and will always further normalize hatred? Or do they understand it and that’s exactly why they’re doing it? They’ve done it so many times that it has to be a conscious decision at this point, right?

I think they’re ultimately indifferent to the hatred, and just want the easiest way to maintain the status quo and their position within it.

Because they agree with the fascists. The only thing they don’t agree with is the rhetoric. They hate the aesthetics of the right, but they want the same things. Libs just feel guilty about it. Libs affectations and rhetoric is only about assuaging their guilt.

      That’s about where I’m at.

Democrats have very thoroughly exhausted their benefit of the doubt. Maybe I just think too highly of them somehow but I don’t believe they’re really completely incapable of developing an electoral strategy with decades of real time feedback on what doesn’t work.

At a certain point if somebody keeps jumping on the same rake in the same place everyday you start to realize they should be able to avoid that by now.

They’d rather lose appealing to moderates than let progressives into the same building as the levers of power.
