They love my translucent skin and bony hands, everything is right there and very easy to see. Real Sissy Spacek arms - frightening to children, delightful to nurses.

A heroine addict once yelled at me from across the street: “Fuck I wish I had your veins! They’re perfect!”

I thought that was kinda funny, and I was reminded of it when I had to get some blood tests done, so I told the nurse poking a needle in my arm. Without skipping a beat she said “I know! I’ve been itching to stab them since I saw them this morning.” Since then I’ve been complemented on my veins by two more nurses. I’ve got good veins.

I get my blood drawn twice a year for medical reasons and I swear it’s every goddamn time. I almost feel objectified
