I imagine sculptors were also upset when 3D modeling

lol no. they were actually really happy when things like Zbrush showed up, you could now teach students age old techniques and theory without buying expensive supplies first, in the comfort of a heated classroom instead of standing up in a gloomy workshop. It also made sculpting much more popular in art schools since you could now practice at home on a computer without making a mess of things. 3D sculpting was nothing short of a damn revolution and I’m quite certain that most sculptors today use 3D sculpting often in their process, its just so damn practical and thanks to torrenting you can crack Zbrush for free in 5min.

And FYI 3D sculpting is still a human process lol, people spend thousands of hours training and perfecting their technique on Zbrush, Mudbox, Blender, etc. I dont really get the comparison here.

      Fair point; my bad

I dont really get the comparison here.

I was just thinking about the original reaction painters had to photography and extending that to other fields which was lazy on my part.

oh god i sound like an asshole in the op sorry, and there was no way for you to actually know this, honestly unless youre working in fields related to 3D this is some obscure nerd knowledge and since im one I typed this with this exact face so-true while sipping my tea lmao.

Btw since 3D is so accessible these days, it made sculpting, which used to be for people lucky enough to inherent or earn wealthy patrons, into a very accessible field, i find that super neat.
