    I struggle to see why asking for a resume is not appropriate. If you are interested in joining, you should tell them what your skills and areas of experience are.

    Any serious applicant would have one on file to send off. Now, if they asked for a cover letter and a five-step interview process, that’s different.

      Yeah in full agreement with you. Additionally, with at least one opportunity to meet the LW admin team face to face (via video interview), it can give the applicant an idea of whether they would even want to give 5-10 hours of their time every week to LW for free.

    If they’re desperate for volunteers, sure I could see taking anyone. If the level of interest is greater than the available positions then you’ve got to narrow down candidates somehow.

            Yeah… I don’t care if the firefighters saving me are volunteers, someone better have made sure they know what they’re doing before giving them the position. It’s obviously not as serious with Lemmy, but same idea.

              Australian volunteer firefighter here with 10 years exp here.

              I’d say all of us were all untrained normies when we joined who applied with an expression of interest (hi I’d like to join, I’m definitely not a fire bug). You get voted in and then do several hours of training every week for 6 months minimum before attending calls (grass fires, small incidents) then slowly upskill into MVAs (car accidents), house fires, rescues, medical Issues etc.

              Not a great example, especially as nearly anyone can join and gain many skills from nothing without needing a resume let alone previous experience.

                That’s interesting, thanks for sharing! I wasn’t referring specifically to having a degree/resume, moreso just proof that you know what you’re doing, whether that be many hours of training, a degree, or prior work experience.

              People volunteer for being firefighters and then get the training they need.
