Because those communities are awesome. Folks gotta post and/or comment if they want !sydney to be awesome too (which it is). It’s that easy. I suspect the popularity of /r/sydney also plays a role in keeping Sydney folk engaged elsewhere.
Can confirm Melbourne is pretty sweet…but seriously, it’s just engagement without judgement and with civility. I think a lot of us were quite committed to the third party apps on Reddit, so the transfer was fairly straightforward.
