Growing up, every new years eve the neighbors next door would throuh a part and the whole neighborhood was invited. I think was around 11 when a new family moved in across the street. at that years party one of dad in the neighbor hood was dancing wtih Mrs. new neighbor. they start getting closer. he fuckin dips her and kisses her. right there in front of me, 3 other kids (i think one of his own), his own wife, and Mr. new neighbor. all the grown ups fled the room and no one ever spoke of it again.
I once had a roommate in the basement who basically never left his room. He used to wear some kind of gloves at all times, and was once seen outside at around midnight going to the nearby park with a garbage bag full of who knows what. We joked that he was some sort of a serial killer, but in reality the poor guy probably just had a fair amount of mental health issues.
In another apartment the landlady looked like a stereotypical brothel madam. Sort of old, lots of make up on and a big hair. Whaddayaknow, we had a prostitute ring going on in the building. Lots of strange, nervous dudes waiting at the door late at night, young women with a lot of make up and skimpy clothes coming and going with suitcases… Until one day there was police tape over a handful of the doors and the picture of our apartment building in the local paper. At least our next door neighbor was a lovely old man who still sends us cookies that taste strange and are borderline edible - but the gesture is terribly nice. Good times!
Edit: Thanks OP for doing a question like this here. Of course it’s ok to ask technical questions, but they are just a lot more boring than real life stories - I hope we get them going and I never have to go back to askreddit.
Went after the other neighbor with a weed whacker after the other neighbor had dumped a bucket of water on the first neighbors wife.
That’s quite the neighborhood spat
They still live next door to each other but there is a restraining order in place.
Threw pears at our bedroom window because they were mad about something we had no control over. God I don’t miss that place.
Hosed out the inside of his car. In the dead of winter. It haunts me to this day… the inevitable icy swamp ass…
I had a neighbor that would consistently have parties that spanned till the early morning. All night long I’d be woken up by screams and hollers. But I was always told to just ignore them and not cause a commotion so I stayed silent for 2 straight years then I left the country and stayed out for about a year before returning.
He was the former building manager, but retired and still lived in the same building complex.
He would simply stand at his window facing one of the entrances to the complex every day when it was warm enough and angrily shout nonsensical things at anyone passing through. Fun times, luckily I lived there only for a year.
effigies and nooses
no joke.
Let the dog outside and bark for 15-30 minute stretches of time, no matter the hour of day. I’d get woken up randomly sometimes until I got a noise machine to at least somewhat drown it out.
I‘ll never forget this cause dealing with it for 2+ years now has changed my whole attitude on dogs, I always thought I might eventually own one and now it‘s the last thing I want in this world. Though I acknowledge some people are good owners with well trained dogs, awful owners like my neighbour now stick out to me and annoy me much more too.
Have you considered calling in a noise complaint?
I have considered it, but I didn‘t do it cause I had bad experiences with police in my life leading me to think of them and more broadly the state as useless at best or harmful at worst. I don‘t want anyone to shoot the dog, I just want it to be quiet. I tried communicating that with my neighbours, but that didn‘t work either as they said they would try to train it or something and just didn‘t.
Either way, I found some coping mechanisms like my noise machine, going to the office to avoid WFH (I like it, but not here!) and noise cancelling and in a year I want to move again and this time I plan to spend a few hours at any apartments to check for loud dogs first.
Fair enough pal. As long as it actually works for you. Don’t actually need to call the popo though, give bylaw a ring.
