It’s a very nice screen, super bright and lovely to look at.

I bought these screen protectors, and they are very easy to install, and look great!

But part of me misses the curved screen. Something about it felt more premium and differentiated from the iPhone.

I still love the 8 Pro though, and have zero regrets.

Back when I had a 6 Pro I always hated the curved screens, without a case with a big border it caused a ton of misinputs and I never made any use of anything involving the curved part, I’ve never really seen the point in them, I’m glad to see the flat screens honestly.

For those who do like curved screens though, why do you prefer them over flat screens? Maybe I’m just missing something about them but they always seemed to be worse than flat to me.

If you swipe over the screen and reach the edge of the display, it just feels nicer.

Only if you don’t use a case. It drives me nuts trying to reach the edge of the display but getting blocked by the side of the case, and that’s even with a pretty low profile case. I never had that problem with flat screens

Now that you mention it… Yeah, that’s why I don’t use a case. Just a Popsocket, so I can hold it without holding it at the edge of the screen.

          There are some cons. :D

The price of a replacement screen is wild. A non curved screen is objectively better. Bit I still like my curved one. :o

I can do it just fine with my pixel 6 Pro and the case that I have. Still feel the curve sides that is. Exaggerating a bit.

For me, the side swiping seems more smooth on the curved screen. I never really noticed missed or over inputs.

While I’m not sure I “prefer” them, I do think it gave the phone a more premium look and feel. There’s something about the side scrolling content scrolling around the curve and off the display, and the device felt…thinner, I guess.

And ever iPhone has a flat screen, so the differentiator on the front of the device was instant.

It’s definitely got downsides though, and I totally get it.

The 7 pro is the first curved screen I don’t hate but to be honest I’d still prefer a flat screen so I can use a proper screen protector.

Yes, the 7 pro was what I had previously, and I agree, other than the S23 Ultra, it had the best implementation of curved screen to date.

Trade ya my P6P for your 8 if you missed the curved screens so bad.

Curved screens are the devil and I’m glad Google wised up and are moving away from them

I have gone without screen protectors for a 4 and a 6. The glass now is different than back in the 2010’s. I know it is a big ask/risk and highly dependant on your use case and lifestyle, but you may find that the protector is not actually doing anything any more. All of us are different in how roughly we use phones. I am in the habit of always keeping items in certain pockets, like my front left is always only for my phone, and I have limited physical mobility, so I am not very hard on devices. YEMV

Yeah, glass technology is definitely getting better. But I can never unsee even mirco-scratches, and I don’t tend to use a case, so I just take comfort in a screen protector.

I didn’t hate the liquid application of screen protectors on curved screens either…it was kinda cool to set those up (even though the fumes were kinda bad).

I can attest to this, after last year. Searching hard for screen protector on the pixel 6 Pro. I kept coming across people who said they never ran one. So I finally took it off and have been going naked for the last year with zero issues. I am basically asking for this phone to break so I can get a new one but so far no issues with the display.
